Carried out in cooperation with the Limak Foundation and the Ministry of Family and Social Services, Engineer Girls of Türkiye Project is waiting for female engineer candidates who want to support female engineer employment and take part in equal conditions. All female engineer candidates who are or will be receiving undergraduate education in certain departments of engineering faculties in Türkiye selected according to URAP 2022 - 2023 World Field Rankings can apply to the project between 25 September - 16 October 2023.
The project contributes to the personal and professional development of female engineer candidates by offering opportunities such as scholarships, certificate programmes, language training, mentoring and employment support. For detailed information and application conditions, please see here.
Limak Foundation, which works for the establishment of an international sisterhood bond in the Engineer Girls of Türkiye Project, where the journey of globalisation has also been initiated beyond the borders of the country, continues to make a name for itself with the Global Engineer Girls initiative launched in Kuwait, North Macedonia and Kosovo.
Students from the Engineer Girls of Türkiye (EGT) project competed for “SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities” from the Sustainable Development Goals at the 'Ideathon' organised for the second time this year, as part of the certificate programmes.
Within the scope of the EGT project, participants benefit from the “Sustainable Leadership in Technology Focus” certificate programme designed in cooperation with the Women in Technology Association (Wtech). Within the scope of the certificate programme, students who receive different trainings in the fields of R&D, innovation, digital transformation, sustainability, analytical and creative thinking have the opportunity to put their training into practice with Ideathon and develop project ideas that are applicable and provide solutions to regional problems.
The 9 Engineer Girls of Türkiye teams competing in the Ideathon produced ideas in line with the SDG-11, “Sustainable Cities and Communities”, and the 5 finalist teams shared their projects with the jury members. Originality, creativity, sustainability, applicability, added value, presentation techniques and teamwork criteria were evaluated in the projects presented.
Among the winning projects, “W - Cycle”, which aims to reduce the use of cargo bags, came first. Second place was awarded to the “Sustainability in Agriculture” project, and third place was awarded to the “Minimum Risk” project, which developed an audible warning system to reduce the loss of life during an earthquake.
Within the scope of the 6th Istanbul Meeting of the Engineer Girls of Türkiye (EGT) held between 13-15 May 2022, 150 engineering students from 37 universities across Türkiye met with EGT alumni, mentors, coaches and guest speakers.
At the meeting, the opening speeches were delivered by Ebru Özdemir – Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Limak Group of Companies and Limak Foundation, Gülser Ustaoğlu – Director General on the Status of Women of the Ministry of Family and Social Services and Louisa Vinton – UNDP Türkiye Resident Representative. Additionally, Chairperson of the NATO Science and Technology Organisation AVT Panel Support Committee Prof. Dr. Melike Nikbay, CEO of Eczacıbaşı Group Atalay Gümrah, Limak Investment Projects Director Reşit Yıldız, Founder of Women in Games TR Simay Dinç, Founder of Women in Technology Association. Prof. Dr. Melike Nikbay, Founding Chairman of the Board of Women in Technology Association Zehra Öney and Actress Hande Ataizi shared their inspiring experiences with Engineer Girls of Türkiye.
Students, who had the opportunity to listen to valuable speakers, also received enriching trainings on topics such as social innovation, social entrepreneurship and gender equality. During the event, which hosted interactive activities such as a bicycle making workshop aiming to develop team spirit, the Engineer Girls of Turkey donated the bicycles produced in the workshop to Darüşşafaka.
Aiming to raise awareness about social issues, the world-famous football player Mesut Özil posted a video about the “Engineer Girls of Turkey” project on his social media accounts within the #YourStoryOurVoice campaign. By sharing the story of the Civil Engineer Kübra, he draws attention to stereotypes regarding professions and supports the wider presence of women in the field of engineering.
The 5th Istanbul Gathering held on February 14-16th 2020, started with the “Tips for a Successful Job Interview” module of Leadership in Engineering Certificate Programme with the trainer İpek Aral.
Female engineering students coming from all over Turkey, the project mentors, coaches, and other precious guests came together on the second day of the event. The Gathering opened with the speeches of Ebru Özdemir, The Chairperson of Limak Foundation; Sukhrob Khojimatov, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative and Gülser Ustaoğlu, General Director on the Status of Women at the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services. Like every year, the 5th Istanbul Gathering also hosted many inspirational role model speeches and training programs as well. Dr. Menzer Pehlivan, Co-chairperson of the Technical Group of Jacobs Earthquake Engineering; Murat Kolbaşı, Chairperson of Arzum; Melek Pulatkonak, Founder of TurkishWin & BinYaprak; Giovanni Guidetti, Head Coach of VakıfBank and Turkey Women’s National Volleyball Team; Belçim Bilgin, actress, Aret Vartanyan, author and Leyla Varan, senior psychologist, met with the audience with their speeches.
On the last day of the Gathering, Dr. Gökçe Bayrakçeken; Gender Equality Specialist of UNDP Turkey; made a panel about “Gender Equality Awareness Raising”. After the panel, the music band GRIPIN and the students of Engineer Girls of Turkey Project composed together with the project song!
Engineer Girls of Turkey Received the Golden Success Award In the 11th Corporate Social Responsibility Summit!
The 11th Corporate Social Responsibility Summit organized by the Corporate Social Responsibility Association of Turkey, was held in Kadir Has University with the participation of the business world leaders, experts, academicians and delegates of international institutions. “Training of Trainers” held on August 24-27th 2019, within the scope of the High School Programme of the Engineer Girls of Turkey Project.
50 teachers from different branches of 25 high schools in 10 different cities of Turkey (Adana, Ankara, Aydın, Balıkesir, Bitlis Diyarbakır, Isparta, İstanbul, İzmir, Samsun) participated in the “Training of Trainers” in order to get the information about the profession of engineering and raise awareness of high school students who will make their career choices.
During the training carried out by the Teachers Academy Foundation (ÖRAV), teachers worked in the field of vocational information and career development along four days. Teachers also recognized the future opportunities that students would gain if they choose engineering, through activities that promote the engineering profession.
EGT High School Programme continue its activities throughout the year with “Decision is Yours” awareness-raising board game, virtual reality applications and the role model meetings to be held in the scope of the high schools of the programme.
